For the first time in 100 years, the Divine Liturgy was performed on the cruiser Aurora
On April 15, 2018, the Divine Liturgy was performed for the first time in 100 years in the church of Nikolai Mirlikiy on the cruiser Aurora.
The divine service was headed by the rector of the Church of St. Nicholas of Myra in the Dolgiozernaya Street of St. Petersburg, the chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for charity, Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko.
Pupils of the Nakhimov Naval School, members of the crew and the command of the ship prayed for the Liturgy.
"These people have a solid Christian Orthodox worldview, and they came to the service, because prayer to God is an important part of their inner spiritual life," said Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko.
According to the priest, now the services in the church of Nikolai Mirlikiy on the cruiser "Aurora" will be held regularly.
"This, of course, is not a parish church, all residents can not go there. This is a temple, which is on board the combat unit, the ship of the Baltic Fleet. Mainly the crew members and the ship's command, as well as the students of the Nakhimov Naval School will take part in the services, "said Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko.
Commenting on the historical significance of the first Liturgy on the Aurora cruiser in 100 years, Father Alexander called the past service an act of historical reconciliation: "With the" Aurora "was associated the beginning of the revolution and the beginning of the terrible era of our country. During the Liturgy, a prayer of commemoration is held for all - and those who were on the side of the Reds, and those who were on the side of whites, and those who saw the future of the country in the continuation of the old order, and those who wanted to change the system. Probably, for Orthodox people this is an act of historical reconciliation of people of different views and different classes. "
